What is hand sawing?

Hand sawing uses a handheld diamond-blade saw guided by an operator rather than a machine that rolls along the floor. That makes it the right tool whenever a cut has to happen somewhere a walk-behind saw simply can't go — up a wall, around a corner, on a stair, or in a cramped basement nook. It's slower and more deliberate than flat sawing, and that's exactly the point: it's about precision and access, not speed.

Think of flat sawing as mowing a lawn and hand sawing as edging and trimming. Both cut concrete, but the handheld saw is how you get into the corners and get the line just right.

When do homeowners need hand sawing?

Usually when a cut is small, awkward, or has to be dead accurate:

Why StoneCore?

Hand sawing rewards experience. The operator controls the line, the depth, and the finish, so the difference between a clean, square opening and a wandering, chipped one comes down to skill. Our crew cuts to the layout, keeps corners crisp, and works carefully around the surrounding material you want to keep. Licensed, insured, and local to Western North Carolina.

Our clean-work promise

Tight spaces make cleanup even more important — there's nowhere for the mess to hide. We control dust and slurry as we go, protect floors and finishes nearby, and leave the area swept and tidy. A precise cut shouldn't come with a cleanup project attached.

Frequently asked questions

Can you cut an opening for a new door?

Yes — cutting doorways and openings through block and concrete walls is a common hand-sawing job. Send a photo and rough dimensions and we'll quote it.

Is hand sawing more expensive than flat sawing?

It's priced by the job. Hand cuts are slower and more detailed, so per foot they can run higher than a long, open flat-saw run — but most hand-saw jobs are small. See our pricing guide for how we quote.

Can you reach inside a crawlspace?

Often, yes. Handheld saws are made for tight access. Describe the space when you call and we'll let you know what's doable.
