What is slab & flat sawing?

Flat sawing (sometimes called slab sawing) is exactly what it sounds like: cutting flat, horizontal concrete with a walk-behind saw that rides on the surface. A big diamond blade drops down to the depth we set and rolls along your layout line, leaving a crisp, straight cut through the slab. It's the go-to method for anything you walk or drive on — floors, driveways, patios, sidewalks, and pool decks.

The advantage over breaking concrete with a jackhammer is control. We cut a clean boundary so only the section you want comes out, and the rest of your slab stays solid and undamaged.

When do homeowners need flat sawing?

This is one of our most-requested residential services, and the reasons vary:

Why StoneCore?

Anybody can drag a saw across concrete. The difference is in the layout, the depth control, and the cleanup. We measure twice and cut once, set our depth so we don't nick the pipe or rebar you're trying to reach, and we manage the water and slurry the saw kicks up. You end up with straight lines, square corners, and a site that's ready for the next step — not a gritty mess to deal with.

Our clean-work promise

Wet sawing produces slurry, and we treat managing it as part of the job, not an afterthought. We contain it, squeegee it up, and hose down the area so your driveway or floor looks cared-for when we leave. Homeowners notice that, and we like it that way.

Frequently asked questions

How deep can you cut?

A walk-behind flat saw handles typical residential slab thickness easily, and we can stack passes for thicker concrete. Tell us roughly how thick the slab is and we'll confirm.

Can you cut without hitting the pipe underneath?

Yes — that's the whole point of controlled depth. We set the blade just deep enough to free the section without diving into what's below. For dedicated pipe access, see plumbing & septic slab access.

Do you haul away the piece you cut?

If you'd like the cut section gone, we offer light section removal too. Just mention it when you call.
